Integrating Patient Data Management Software with ROS-Based Surgical Systems

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a healthcare-oriented software system designed to manage patient data for complex surgical procedures such as DIEP flap breast reconstruction.

The goal is to build a reliable platform that can securely handle patient records, real-time monitoring data, and surgical workflow information. I’m particularly interested in exploring how this type of system could integrate with ROS-based robotic platforms used in advanced surgical environments.

Some key questions I’m trying to figure out:

  1. How can ROS nodes be used to transmit or synchronize patient-related data securely?

  2. Is there any recommended architecture for connecting external healthcare software with ROS systems?

  3. What are the best practices for ensuring low-latency communication in such setups?

If anyone has experience working with healthcare and robotics integration or has insights on ROS-based data handling, I’d really appreciate your guidance.
